Sumanthbhai V. Sheth's Obituary
Union City – Sumanthbhai Vallavdas Sheth, 83, passed away Saturday July 8th, 2017 following a brief illness.He leaves his wife of 60 years, Ramaben (Desai) Sheth; his four children and their spouses; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many close friends.Born in the small town of Modasa, Gujrat as the eldest son to a clothing trader, he went on to become one of the first engineers from Modasa, setting an example for many others to come.An avid traveler, he studied in Bombay before getting his Civil Engineering degree from Vidyanagar. In 1957 he married Ramaben Sheth and took up his first job with the Gujarat Government overseeing dam construction. From then on, he worked at several places in India before settling in Bombay, where he made life-long friends.Parenthood soon followed, starting with the birth of his first daughter, Shilpa, in 1959, his second daughter, Dipty, in 1961, his son, Parag, in 1965, and his son, Tushar, in 1975. He took a keen interest in his kids’ upbringing and provided them with immense support at all times. At about 50 years old, he became a grandfather. In total, he has nine grandchildren, whom he loved very much, he spent his days playing with them, telling them stories, and spoiling them with treats.After his retirement, he started visiting USA more often to be close to his sons. Here, he spent time with his family and with other members of the community.In 2006 he suffered a life-altering stroke, that left him wheelchair bound and unable to speak. But this did not stop him from living life to the fullest. Like a good bridge player, he played to win with the cards he was dealt.A memorial service followed by cremation will be held on Wednesday, July 12th, 2017. The following two events will be held at his residence. Bhajan on Saturday – July 15th, from 4-6pm and Thirteenth day ceremony on Thursday – July 20th morning.
