Steven Stein's Obituary
Steven Alan Stein June 14, 1944~May 8, 2009 Former San Leandro Resident After a brief battle with cancer, Steve passed away peacefully at Northwest Hospital, Seattle surrounded by family. Born in Los Angeles to Carl and Anne Stein, his childhood years were spent in LA and San Leandro. Steve graduated from San Leandro High School in 1962. He attended Laney College in Oakland and became a certified aircraft mechanic. He married Julie Henderson on September 13, 1975. Steve loved airplanes and knew from a very early age that he wanted to work on engines. He dismantled his father’s lawnmower just to see how it worked. Steve’s career began as an aircraft mechanic and expanded to include the responsibilities and skills of supervising and sales. He worked for National Airmotive Corp. for 28 years, followed by positions with StandardAero, Catalytica Energy Systems, and Rolls Royce Engine Services. Dedicated to the aircraft industry, Steve was well-respected among his colleagues and made friends all over the world as he traveled for business. In his spare time, Steve attended muscle car shows with his lovingly-restored 1974 Z-28 Camaro, and was active with the P-Town Push Rods Car Club of Pleasanton. Steve retired in May, 2008. He and Julie moved to Whidbey Island, WA in December. Steve will be greatly missed by his wife of 33 years, Julie; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Robert Leite (Modesto, CA), Jim and Char Henderson (Freeland, WA), John and Sally Henderson (Oostburg, WI), Jeff and Joan Henderson (Indianola, WA); 11 nieces and nephews; 6 great-nephews and -nieces. Preceded in death by parents Carl and Anne Stein, sister Susan Leite and niece Debra McMahon.
