Steven Joseph Gomes' Obituary
Steven Joseph Gomes was the fourth of six children conceived from the loving union of Dorothy & Raymond Gomes of Hayward, California. He was born in Castro Valley, California on St. Patrick’s Day, Wednesday, March 17, 1963. Sadly, while Steve slept his kind soul was called home by our Lord in Heaven on Friday, August 6, 2021, at the age of 58.
Steve enjoyed life and was a very social and enthusiastic man with an inquisitive nature. His parents come from good size families, so whether it be the Borges or Gomes side of the family tree there was always ample opportunity to celebrate some event with family and friends. Steve also got along with all his family for the most part and loved his parents whole heartedly. Though the loss of his parents did take its toll on him, he did persevere.
In the 1980s Stave was a Tennyson High School (Hayward, California) alumnus. Though he did not graduate with his class as life took him in another direction, he learned to become a multifaceted hardworking, self-directed individual with experience in landscaping, maintenance, and warehouse management. Proudly Steve did complete his educational goal on May 31, 2019. His family was proud of his accomplishment and always did their best to support his efforts where and when possible.
Steve lived a simple bachelor lifestyle with a few affectionate relationships through his life yet never married nor was he blessed with any children. The time was just never right for him to make such a
commitment. He did, however, have ample nieces and nephews to keep entertained. He also enjoyed going to church to hear the word of the Lord. Most of all though he enjoyed helping and supporting others. He was known for being a champion of the homeless and giving much of his time, energy, and support to those in need. Most recently he worked with Downtown Streets Team a program with the value of ending homelessness by restoring the dignity and rebuilding the lives of unhoused men and women of the local community.
Many of us knew Steve to be a big-hearted and social individual who was kind, sincere, and very loving of others. He was an avid recycler and those who knew him can attest he was a very chatty soul at times. We know many people will miss his warm spirit, voice, and conversations. It is with certainty family and his friends will truly miss this kind man.
Steve is predeceased by both his parents and his sister Nancy. He is survived by his siblings Thomas Gomes; Sherry Gomes-Miller; Carol Barraza; Mary Beth Howland; and five nieces and seven nephews.
Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard but always near; still loved, still missed and very dear.
