Solomon Cruz's Obituary
Solomon (Sam) Cruz, 96, of Hayward, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 15, 2022.
Solomon was born October 22, 1925 in Honolulu, Hawaii the son of Simion Cruz and Julia Rios. He served in the Army during World War II, 1945-1947 and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He married the love of his life Celia Cruz in 1948. Solomon and Celia started their family in Honolulu and then moved to California. They shared three children; Herman, Carlos and Irene. Solomon boxed for many years in Hawaii and California and worked as a Machine Operator for Goodyear/Cordell Rubber for 24 years. The family, along with many friends, have lost a wonderful human being. His passions were many, including gardening, yard work, going on walks all over town, working out (even in his 80’s), watching WWE and westerns on TV, looking at old family photos and telling stories from the past, and anything that reminded him of Hawaii (especially music and hula girls). Solomon loved his Puerto Rican heritage and ate his favorite meal of Pasteles and Arroz con gandules any time he could. His quiet sense of humor and love of life will be greatly missed. His life was interrupted, but while he was on this earth he embraced opportunities and the chance to experience life with open arms. His smile and charming ways can never be replaced. Solomon was one of a kind and is now reunited with his wife Celia and son Carlos.
Those who will greatly miss Solomon include his children, son Herman Cruz and his wife Lorrie Cruz and his daughter Irene Sandoval and her husband Francisco Sandoval. His granddaughter Theresa Cruz-Schuyler and husband Eddie Schuyler and grandson Anthony Cruz and wife Maria Agustin. Surviving siblings, Domingo Rosa, Raymond Rosa, Virginia Rosa, Margaret Rosa, John Rosa, Herbert Rosa and Don Cruz. As well as other family members and friends including sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.
Service to celebrate Solomon’s life will be held at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward on September 2, 2022 from 9-11. Burial will follow at Chapel of the Chimes at 11:15 am. Flowers and well wishes for the family can be sent to Chapel of The Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA 94544.
