Mr. Samuel Murry, Jr.Mr. Samuel Murry, Jr. was born on February 13, 1940 in Munday, Texas to Mrs. Elvina Baker and Samuel Murry, Sr. He made the transition from this life into eternity on Monday October 2, 2012.Samuel (Sam or, lovngly, SM) received his early education in Mangum, Oklahoma. He then went on to attend Douglas High School in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he played football and ran track. His teams received national recognition during his tenure.Sam served four hears in the United States Air Force and 11 1/2 years in the United States Navy. He earned numerous military honors and medals including: the National Defense Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, The Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star FMF Combat Insignia, and the Purple Heart.Mr. Murry was united in marriage with Oletha M. Prince on October 28, 1961, in Enid, Oklahoma. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011.Sam was a member of the Church of Christ for 50 years. He attended and worked faithfully in the Fremont Church of Christ congregation for 9 1/2 years. Among other educational pursuits, Sam earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Education. Using his medical training and experience he worked in the employ of Kaiser Permanente until he retired in November 1999 after 29 1/2 years of service.SM was preceded in death by his twins (a boy and a girl) when they were infants, and by his mother, father, and one brother. He is survived by his devoted wife, Oletha; his brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Georgia Murray of Enid, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Verla Honesty and her husband Ronald, of Vienna, Virginia; and brother-in-law Granville Prince and his wife Sharon of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Stillwater, Oklahoma; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Sam is also survived by his best friends William and Evelyn Jackson, Walther and Rose Schleuter, godson Jacob Schleuter, and many, many others.Family and friends are invited to attend a Visistation for Sam on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 7 to 9 PM at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home, 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, California 94544 and to a Celebration of Life for Sam on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 11 AM at Church of Christ of Fremont, 4300 Hansen Avenue, Fremont, California 94536.
