Rufo Tanco's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts to announce the passing of Rufo Tanco, longtime resident of Union City from 1972-2017 and most recently a resident of the Del Webb Roseville Community. Rufo passed suddenly from Congestive Heart Failure at his second “earth paradise” home on the island of Maui and was transported back to the mainland August 1, 2018 to SF East Bay. He was surrounded by his immediate family at his side. With his wife Perpetua at his side, Rufo is survived by son Ray Tanco (wife Cindy); daughter Arlene Tanco Stassinos (husband Paul); grandson Jason Tanco (wife Olivia); granddaughter Veronica Sanchez (husband David), great grandchildren Sophia and Uriah; grandson Justin (wife April), great grandson Riley. Rufo is survived by his siblings: sister Domenica Guinto; brother Felix Tangco; brother Lito Tangco; brother Polinaris Tangco. All family members are most grateful to their “Cuya” for sponsoring each sibling and several extended family members by assisting them to find employment in America upon their arrival.Rufo was born December 1926 in San Carlos, Philippines, of the Pangasinan region but raised in Baguio City. He is survived by his wife, Perpetua. Rufo and Perpetua recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on May 21, 2018. As young adults, both survived the atrocities of World War II precipitating Rufo’s enlistment in the United States Navy in which he proudly served and retired in. His military career began at the latter segment of World War II in the Philippines and subsequently fought in the Korean War. Rufo radiated his pride in his service in the United States military demonstrated by his support and affiliation of various Veterans of Foreign War Programs and Projects. Check out his plethora of military embroidered caps he has worn and collected over the years!Rufo was most proud of his four careers: US Navy career of twenty-two years, ten years as Military Procurement Civilian at Oakland’s Army Depot, over thirty years as a small Business Owner of several private Board and Care facilities, and an avid Real Estate Investor. His patriotism and heartfelt pride for America defined Rufo in his 92 years on earth—undoubtedly a quintessential immigrant ! An effervescent and affable person, Rufo shared many of his passions in life with so many people fortunate to have known him. His unwavering Christian Catholic faith propelled him to be a devoted family man always putting his family members as one of his top priority of his time and treasures! Rufo emulated LOVE of our Lord through his myriad of sacrifices for family and the Church.Rufo’s Funeral Service will be at St. Anne Catholic Church in Union City at 10:00 a.m. August 10, 2018 followed by a military burial at the Chapel of the Chimes. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or other Veterans of Foreign War Programs in his Memory.
