Ruben Vasquez Aguilar's Obituary
Ruben was born in Legaspi City, Philippines. He was preceded in death by his parents Crescencio Aguilar and Anacleta Aguilar. Ruben is survived by his Wife, Efigenia, of 47 years. Devoted father to Joseph Reuben, John Vincent and Charlene Ann. His greatest gifts were his 3 Grandchildren Emma Jean, Alisa Victoria Aguilar and Madeline Aguilar. Ruben Vasquez Aguilar attended elementary and high school in a public school in Libon, Albay. After graduation from high school, he left for manila, Philippines, and enrolled in a two-year college course, which he completed, and obtained his AA. In 1965, the travel bug bit him, so he went to Subic Bay, Philippines and filed his application to join the US Navy in which he had a 22 year, 5 month and 15 day carrier. His first assignment was in Norfolk, Virginia. On June 7, 1969, he married Efigenia Gianan-Aguilar. The marriage ceremony was celebrated at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Alameda, California. In August 1970 he got his first shore duty assignment to Barber Point, Ewa Beach, Hawaii, where the three children were born at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. August 1974, he got sea duty orders in Alameda, California. They brought a house in Union City in September, 1974 where the family live to-date. Among the ships he loved to talk about are the USS Walworth County, USS San Jose, and the USS Virginia, CGN 38. On June 19, 1985, he received his fourth GOOD CONDUCT AWARD for fidelity, zeal and obedience, a certificate in recognition of faithful, zealous, and obedient naval service. The certificate was signed by G.R. Goldenstein, Capt., United States Navy, and Commanding Officer. On November 14, 1984, the Secretary of the Navy has awarded him the NAVY ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL for professional achievement for Jan 1984 to April 1984. In 1985, after retiring from the U.S. Navy, he took a brief respite, and then applied for a job at Lockheed in San Jose, California. While working as Security Officer for Lockheed, he enrolled at Ohlone College and completed 60 units of law enforcement with academic honors. He worked for almost eight years at Lockheed but was one of those who got laid off after the end of the Persian Gulf War. He applied and was hired at BART Police Department, and worked as Community Service Assistant (CSA). On March 10, 1998, he received a certificate of recognition for commendable performance for excellence in team-work. The commendation was signed by Gary Gee, Commander, BART Police Department. In 1974, he and his family registered as parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, an amazing parish in Fremont, California. He was one of the officers of Calolbon Civic Association USA, Inc. (CCAUSA). He was an avid reader and loved music. He was a devoted, very responsible and hard-working father and wonderful grandfather. His wife was a stay-at-home mom for 15 years. “The children will be babies but once, you could find a job later,” he would say. Two of the most beautiful and memorable moments in our life was the 14-day pilgrimage to the Holy Land 2005 and the trip to Ontario, Canada later the same year. Niagara Falls was awesome.
