Roy Swain's Obituary
On September 7, 2023, God sent one of his angels to the garden to pick a beautiful flower. That was our dear beloved Roy. God wanted him to come home and take his rest.
Roy Swain was born in Talladega, Alabama, on April 29, 1946, to the union of T.L., Sr. and Artelia G. Swain in Childersburg, Alabama. Roy was the eleventh child of fifteen children. Roy received his education from Phyllis Wheatley High School in Childersburg, Alabama. Roy accepted Christ at an early age. He joined Tallassahatchie Missionary Baptist Church in Kylmuga, Alabama.
Roy relocated to San Francisco, California, after graduating and receiving his high school diploma. He joined the US Army shortly after and served from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1969.Roy began his career at The Western Can Company in San Francisco, California and in his later years was employed by Gillig in Hayward , California until he retired.
Roy leaves to cherish his precious memories: Wife: Shirley Ann Swain of Union City. Three children, Arthur (Darryl ) Ames of Union City, Felicia L. Ames of San Jose, and David L. Swain of Wichita, KC, and granddaughter (Celeste). Five sisters: Katie Campbell of Daly City, Bernice Welch of San Francisco, Barbara Ann Green of San Pablo, Arieglean Washington of Oakland. One brother: T.L. Swain, Jr. of Kymulga. Brother-in-law: Danny R. Washington of Oakland. A host of nieces and nephews, great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces, and nephews. Roy also left a host of friends and aquatints.
When he departed his walk of life, he was preceded in death by parents, T.L. Swain, Sr. and Artelia G. Swain, five sisters: Lucille Calhoun, Rosie L. Thompson, Georgia R. Garrett, Annie F. Canson, and Carol J. Swain, four brothers: Hozell Swain, Willie U. Swain, Robert E. (Sonny) Swain, and Joe Freeman (Freeboy) Swain.
