Obituary for Rosi (JoAnn) Bernard April 29, 1947-March 23, 2015 Rosi transcended her physical life surrounded by her loving family at home in Oceanside, California.Rosi fought valiantly to survive cancer. Due to the limitations of traditional medical treatment for her condition, she courageously studied and followed holistic approaches which ultimately prolonged her life well beyond medical expectations. She leaves behind the love of her life and husband of 27 years, Ahmad Sha Maqdoor; children Michael Cabezudo and Renée Bernard; grandson, Kahlil B. Dumas; and many close family and friends.Rosi was born and raised in Germany and moved to the California in her twenties. She began her professional career in 1982 at Ohlone College, Fremont, CA. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from California State University, East Bay (1997) and a Master’s Degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills (1999). Rosi devoted her career as a financial aid director to helping others achieve higher education. She touched many lives on a personal level before she retired from Mira Costa College in 2013.Rosi loved traveling the world with her husband and spending quality time with family and friends. She volunteered her time serving those in need in her community. Her humor, wisdom, generosity and contagious laughter are gone, but will never be forgotten.A burial ceremony took place on March 29, 2015. To honor Rosi’s life, the family recommends online donations to her favorite charity: Brother Benno’s Oceanside Soup Kitchen, a non-profit organization serving the poor and homeless with dignity.
