Rosario Suratos' Obituary
On Sunday, March 14, 2021, we lost a loving and wonderful person. She dedicated her life as a loving wife of 61 years, caring mother of 12 exemplary raised children, doting grandmother of 34 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren, responsible sister, aunt and a faithful friend to many. Rosario Ruth Barbara or fondly called by many as “Ruth” or “Mommy Ruth” was born on December 4, 1937 in Mapandan Pangasinan, Philippines. She was a prestigious teacher of 20 years and a business woman in Real Estate and different ventures back in the Philippines. She came to the US in 1977 and successfully worked for different companies holding different promoting positions (i.e. Asst. Director at Goodwill, Dental Hygienist, Real Estate Loan Officer). She proved to be a very capable hard worker inspired by her dedication as a loving wife to her husband, who together vowed to give their big family a good life. Both working 2 full time jobs, they also hosted bus travelling to casinos and bingos on their days off. They still mixed work with pleasure as they were earning and meeting new people while enjoying in the casino and playing bingo. Playing bingo was their favorite weekend activity upon retirement, next to spending time with family and enjoying on doting and caring for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. As if having a big family was not enough, with her loving “motherly nature”, she continued to adopt friends to becoming family friends and be called “Mommy Ruth”. People came to her for wisdom and advice, or just be inspired by listening to her colorful stories of her fruitful life. Her profession as a teacher extended throughout her life as she imparted great lessons of life, values and virtues that the family will continue to treasure and uphold.
She was a woman with a smile (and a dimple) that lighted up the room and warmed up the hearts of people. She was strong and resilient but at the same time gentle and loving. She was smart and witty, cheerful and affectionate. She was a people-person and easily delivered impromptu speech with flying colors. She was all of these and so much more to her family and friends. She was the “heart” of the family and will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed…
We believe “Mommy Ruth”, together with her husband, “Daddy Pedro”, who predeceased her on April 14, 2020, will continue to watch over from heaven, their family who they call and refer to as their pride and legacy. They were both survived by:
