Rodney Dale Leong's Obituary
A long-time resident of Hayward CA, Rodney D. Leong passed-away Tuesday, June 13, 2017. He was 68 years old and was born on April 6, 1949 in Berkeley CA to Henry and Laura Leong.Rod was a devoted husband to Terry who he met through mutual friends. On their first date, they went out for dessert (one of his favorite hobbies). Later, he professed that dessert was less of an investment if the date didn’t work out.The eldest of three siblings, he has a sister Valerie and a brother Robert. He became step-father to Terry’s sons Aaron and Corey, and “grandpa Rod” to Corey’s children Crystal and Ethan. One of his passions lead him to co-found the Salt Water Enthusiasts Association of the Bay Area (SEABAY) since he loved saltwater fish, anemones, and coral, and scuba diving. Also, he was a big fan of STAR WARS and STAR TREK, military history, caring for the environment, travelling to Hawaii, playing the guitar, and cheering for the Warriors, Giants, and the 49ers.Another hobby he enjoyed was cooking. He was very happy to host and to cook for family gatherings. A real foodie – croissants, cronuts, and malasadas were topics of happy discussion. He worked as a bus operator for 30 years at San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) from which he retired in 2011. By then, he learned of every good bakery in the county.Rod is survived by his wife, sister, brother, mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, step sons and a daughter-in-law, grandchildren, aunts, uncle, numerous cousins, and many dear friends. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the World Wildlife Fund, American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice.
