Robert Young SmithRobert Smith passed away at age 83 on March 1, 2016 in Walnut Creek, California. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane, his children, Jeff & Karen Smith, Bobby & Della Smith, Chris & Janice Smith, his grandchildren Jeffrey Smith, Zachary Smith, Chad Rainey, Scotty Thayer, Kimmy Ruloph and Brittany Smith; great grandchildren Sierra Smith, Ashley & Nick Rainey, Isaac & Lily Ruloph, Brandon & Logan Thayer and Savannah Campbell; great great granddaughter Avalon Campbell and many other family members who will miss him. Bob was a superintendent with Underground Construction for 42 years which took him and his family across the United States from Virginia, to Texas, Arizona, Nevada before coming back home to California in San Ramon where he and Jane lived for the past 40 years. Bob was born May 28, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan. The family moved to Nashville, Tennessee before relocating to northern California. He met Jane Zimmerling while attending Hayward High School. They were married for 65 years, having tied the knot on December 17, 1950 in Reno, Nevada. Bob was an avid golfer. You could find him and Jane just about every day on the golf course perfecting their game. He enjoyed talking football and making bets with his sons as well as country music and a great game of cards. His family loved him very much and will always keep cherished moments close to their hearts.
