Robert DeMotto's Obituary
September 17, 1930 – March 1, 2019Surrounded by family, Robert passed away peacefully on March 1, 2019, as a result of kidney failure. He is survived by his three children Stephen (and his wife Sandra), David and Lori, his eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Robert is also survived by his in-laws Danny and Virginia Castillo and Joan Castillo, many nephews/nieces, great-nephews/nieces and cousins. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Mary Ann, his parents Manuel and Elsie, and his brother Malcolm. Robert was born in Oakland, CA where he grew up and graduated high school. After marrying Mary Ann and serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Robert settled in San Leandro where he and Mary Ann raised their family. For the last 25 years, Robert has resided in Castro Valley. For the last several years Robert has been cared for by eldest grandson, Christopher. He especially enjoyed the companionship of Bob, Christopher’s English bull dog. Robert enjoyed an extensive career was a Driver-Salesman first with Eiselman Brothers for 20+ years. Most recently Robert sold Mac Tools as an independent Agent where he established many strong, long-lasting relationships with shop-owners and mechanics throughout the East Bay. Robert was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed growing orchids of all varieties. He also enjoyed woodworking and created many cherished pieces (bird houses, bookshelves, desks etc.) for his grandchildren. Robert was an early and passionate supporter of the Oakland Raiders and greatly enjoyed attending games as a season ticket holder with family and friends.
