My Pop. My pop was born and raised in
Oakland. He was a marine. He was a pilot.
When I was very young, he owned a flight
instruction school in Hayward. He was also in
air traffic control. My Pop was handsome,
smart, strong, and talented with a passion for
stained glass art. I have so many great
memories. Early on hanging out in the Hayward
airport, climbing the eucalyptus trees at the
flight school waiting for him to be done with
the work day.
We lived in Livermore, no air conditioning but
we had a swimming pool. My Pop was always
outside in the back yard cleaning the pool,
creating beautiful landscapes by the pool,
always in his bathing suit and swimming daily
during the hot days. We always had lots of
family and friends coming over for barbeque
and swimming.
We would watch tv together, sitting on a
loveseat cracking and eating peanuts from the
shell. Our favorite things to watch together was
Raider football and Bob Wilkins hosting
Creature Features.
During Christmas time we always went up into
the hills of Livermore to cut down the perfect,
ginormous tree. We had vaulted ceilings and
the tree was always up to the very top of the
ceiling.
My Pop was a great and awesome grandfather
to our children. He was adventurous, they all
traveled together, and he had shown them
many great first experiences.
He had lots of friends, family and he was
married to my mother for almost 60 years. I
witnessed my Pop getting baptized in Lake
Tulloch with Pastor Bill in 2012ish, and my
husband Bobby witnessed Gods love and
salvation, to my Pop for many years.
My Pop loved Bobby. He was a son to him. We
went to Reno together almost yearly for my
Pops birthday. They got along very well and
would do anything for each other.
When my Pop was in the hospital in Santa
Clara, Bobby also living in Santa Clara a couple
of miles away for work, Bobby went to see my
Pop when no one else could. Sometimes,
depending on the time and situation, he could
go in and see him or go by the window and say
hi.
My Pop did tell me that he knew I loved him, he
winked at me told me that he knew where he
was going, home to God, and that he was
ready. I had great closure, prayer, and love with
my Pop. I knew he loved me too. As a believer I
know I’ll see him again.
Wow! Thank you, Jesus!
