Reynard David Leary's Obituary
Reynard David Leary, affectionately known as Ronnie, passed away at the age of 70 on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Washington Hospital in Fremont, California.
Ronnie was born in San Nicholas Floridablanca, Pampanga, Philippines, to parents Alfonso Leary Sr. and Emerenciana David. One of ten siblings, he was the eighth child in a large and loving family. He attended San Nicholas Elementary and graduated from St. Augustine High School in the Philippines. At 16, he joined his family in Guam, who had moved there earlier, and completed his studies at John F. Kennedy High School. During this time, Ronnie met his high school sweetheart, Lowella.
Before marriage, Ronnie moved to San Francisco, where he studied computer technology at the Control Data Institute. At 19, he joined the U.S. Army and served for four years as a computer technician. At 25, Ronnie married Lowella, and together they settled in San Francisco. There, he continued his studies at Heald College while working to further his career.
In 1980, Ronnie and Lowella welcomed their first child, a daughter named Michelle, and in June 1985, their son Darryl, also known as Rambo, was born. That same year, they settled into their family home in Union City, where they have lived ever since, building a life full of love, dedication, and community.
Ronnie’s career was marked by an enduring passion for technology and service. After initially working as a computer engineer, he shifted paths in 2010, launching his own general construction company. Known for his work ethic and dedication, Ronnie brought warmth and expertise to every project he undertook.
Ronnie was a man of many passions, and his love for travel took him on cruises all over the world—from Hawaii to Europe to Asia. He had dreams of one day joining Michelle on her work trips to Dubai, always excited to explore new places. His love of travel was matched only by his love of cooking, and he found great joy in hosting gatherings for family and friends, creating delicious meals that brought people together.
In November 2008, Ronnie was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Facing this battle with immense courage, he continued to work and live fully. In March 2013, he received a diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), yet he fought on, living bravely with cancer for 16 years. Throughout his journey, Ronnie remained a devoted husband, father, and friend, admired for his resilience and his warm, generous spirit.
Ronnie is survived by his beloved wife, Lowella, his treasured children, Michelle and her husband Brian & Darryl and his wife, Emilyn, and his four grandchildren Kristofer, Jason, Peyton, and Dominic and his dear siblings Amelia Dongon, Lourdes Macaraig, Alfonso Leary Jr., Arthur Leary, Jesus Leary as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ronnie’s life was marked by dedication to his family, his pursuit of education, and his commitment to service. His legacy endures in the lives he touched and the love he shared with those around him
