Reynaldo Bongalos Caparros February 20th, 1931 – June 8th, 2013 Resident of FremontReynaldo passed-away with his loving family by his side, on the afternoon of Saturday, June 8th, from complications with the heart. He joins his wife, Nerissa, who passed-away only three years and two days earlier.Reynaldo leaves behind the family that he devoted his life to. He is survived by his children: son Benedict Caparros and wife Abigail, of Fremont, CA; daughter Annariza Brigham and husband Scott, of Chesapeake, VA; son Rene Padia-Caparros and husband Frank, of Fremont, CA; son Romeo Castro and wife Zenaida, of the Philippines, as well as grandsons Andrew Wenthe, of Chesapeake, VA; Mitchell Wenthe of Fremont, CA, and Catherine Cayabyab, Czarina Castro, Mark Castro, Patrick and Joseph Castro, of the Philippines. He is also survived by his siblings, sister Alicia Llamas, Lydia Mesa and Myrna DeGuzman, as well as several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives in both the Philippines and in the United States. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxima and Heriberto; brother Rudolfo Caparros; sister Melba Andalis, and sons Alan and Reynaldo Caparros, Jr.Rey was born in Poblacion, in the Quezon province of Alabat, the third oldest of six children. Reynaldo joined the Philippine Scouts in support of the United States Army from August 1946 to May 1949. He graduated from Secondary Course (high school) Luzonian Colleges in 1952. Rey received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1957, from the Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila. Shortly after graduation, he married the love of his life, Neri, on November 2nd, 1957.Shortly after the birth of Benedict in 1967, Rey and Neri immigrated to the United States in 1970, living briefly in Alaska. While there, Neri gave birth to their one and only daughter, Riza. Soon after, the family moved to New York. They lived there for several years, and during that time, the family went on many trips up and down the East Coast. He continued his dreams, working as a Civil Engineer. He worked for the Suffolk City Civil Service Department as a Jr. Civil Engineer. In 1978, their youngest son, Rene, was born. The following summer, the Caparros family relocated to Fremont, CA, their current city of residence. He briefly worked for the City of Salinas, and months after, Rey started working for the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) until he retired in 2000.During his years after retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, went fishing, or to the casinos, and traveled as much as his schedule and health would permit. On the rare occasions when he wasn’t surrounded by family, he loved keeping busy with projects around the house and yard.Family and friends are invited to a Visitation and Vigil on Tuesday, June 18th, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA 94544, in the Reflection Chapel.A Catholic Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday June 19, 2013, at 11:00 am, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 37588 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536, followed by a Reception at the family home.
