Rebecca Chan Hipona's Obituary
Rebecca “Becky” Chan Hipona passed away on June 30, 2020 at the Eden Medical Center, in Castro Valley, California, aged 83. She is survived by her five children, Arnold (Rosemarie), Beverly, Clarence (Mary Jo-An), Evelyn (Michael) and Franklin (Mary) and 7 grandchildren, Marc, Henry, Clarisse, Caitlyn, Tyler, Nathaniel and Lily. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Edison, her parents, her daughter Dorothy, her grandson Justin and her siblings Tolentino Chan and Teresa Chan Wandas.
Rebecca was born October 16, 1936, in Bauang, La Union, Philippines to Pedro Rimorin Chan and Marcelina Pabros. Rebecca and her family survived the Japanese occupation during WWII, attending Sacred Heart School in Bauang for high school and Saint Louis College in Baguio City studying nursing. She married Edison Evangelista Hipona on November 8, 1957.
In January 1976, Rebecca moved with her family to the United States, settling in Chicago before purchasing a home in Rolling Meadows. After a short stay in Florida, they moved to San Jose, CA before returning to the Philippines, building their retirement home in Bauang. She eventually returned to the United States, living first in the Chicago area before finally residing in Castro Valley. Her hobbies in her life was a love of gardening particularly orchids, sewing and travel. She was a caring mother, doting grandmother and very hardworking. Her funeral will take place Friday, July 24, 2020 at the Chapel of the Chimes, in Hayward, CA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to National Kidney Foundation or American Diabetes Association.
