Raymond Ortega's Obituary
Sept. 7, 1932 – Sept. 8, 2008 Resident of Union City Raymond Luciano Ortega died peacefully on the morning of September 8, 2008. Ray was born in Raton, New Mexico. He later moved to Rawlins, Wyoming where he met Eleanor Macias who became his beautiful wife of 57 years. Together, they moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1951. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Teamsters for 26 years, retired and became the proud owner of Ray’s Cherryland Grocery Store in Hayward, CA. Ray is survived by his devoted wife Eleanor, his son Dr. Reyes Ortega, and his daughters Mary Ortega Mendez and Cristina Ortega Watson. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandsons and one great grandson. He was a loving uncle/father/grandfather to his niece Janet De Herrera Leon and family. Ray was also a loving brother to Tony, Isabel, John, Beatriz, Richard, and Jack Ortega. Throughout his lifetime, Ray was blessed by a large family and many friends. He was known for his love of family, a unique sense of humor, his interest in music and pride in his culture. Our dad will be greatly missed. Dios lo bendiga. Descanse en paz. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 13 at 1:30 pm. and take place at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA. Ray will be laid to rest in Rawlins, Wyoming.
