Raul would come into Ike's lounge, at that time called Bill's Place, and visit with Jose and us (who were in the band.) Lots of times he had Maria with him (she was always interesting, fun and insightful,) and both of them were always a joy to visit with. We ate together at the restaurant in the back, and visited after or before the gigs. It was fun. Raul always enjoyed being with the whole gang. He was always optimistic and interested in what was going on. Jose and I went to his house at least a couple of times and talked with him and visited. He was always cheerful, helpful, funny, and interested in other people. He left an indelible memory. Good man !
