Hicks, Rannie L's Obituary
Rannie Lee Hicks was born May 8, 1930, in McLennan Texas. Rannie was the eight of eleven siblings born to James Hicks and May Fannie Austin Hicks. Rannie pursued his education at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama where he graduated in 1954 and thereafter served 2 years in the United States army. Shortly thereafter he relocated to San Francisco and pursued a career in education. He would meet Dorothy Nell Daniels, also from Texas. They would marry on November 28, 1957, and the union would produce 3 children (Douglas Ivan, Felicia Ann and Phillip Lyle).
Rannie Hicks spent some 35 years as an educator, primarily with the Ravenswood City School District in East Palo Alto. First, as a teacher and finally as the director of personnel at the district office. It was there he met Janell Schoate-Hicks, a health educator and registered nurse. In 1986 they married and shared 34 years together until her passing. Rannie continued to share a warm relationship with her son Ivan Armstrong Jr. Together Rannie and Jan were both faithful members of the Palma Ceia Babtist Church until their deaths.
Rannie was predeceased by four sisters (Juanita Moore Powell, Mattie Veola Hicks, Hazel Dodd and Mae Jimmie Scott) five brothers (Jimmy Lee Hicks, Addison Hicks, Laurinzo Hicks, Oscar Hicks and Theodric Hicks)
Rannie is survived by his sister Erma Jean Yarbrough, his daughter Felicia Bradford, son Phillip Hicks and a host of nieces, nephews and other cherished relatives and friends.
