Ruth and I met Ram and Jeri out walking in Rossmoor. Later Ram and I worked together on the Board. He was so skilled, helpful and supportive.
Ruth and I always talked during our walks around the Mutual. But we noticed that Ram and Jeri outdid us. They always talked so animatedly and intensely. You could see the closeness in their relationship.

Ram was my “Anna” elder brother. He was an Anna in the true sense. Though I was in India and he in the USA the bond was strong probably due to the way we were brought up by our parents and a shared childhood. He was always there for me and I felt that I could reach out to him at any time. When my wife was suffering from cancer he called to ask if he could help in any way, financially or otherwise.
One of my fond memories is that he taught me to bicycle. He took good care of all his things including his bicycle which I touched without his permission, thinking he was not around. He suddenly appeared and hit me on my butt. However, the next day he taught me to ride a bicycle.
Though he had a rough exterior he was a warm and caring person.
I am missing my Anna, he will continue to live in my mind and heart
From my early memories as a kid, Dodappa Ram was a source of joy and excitement. I would eagerly look forward to his visits from the US, knowing they would be filled with laughter, stories, and some tech gadgets. Over the years, we were fortunate to share many wonderful trips with him, and I always listened with fascination to his stories of traveling around the world.
One of my fondest memories will always be the day he got the Age of Empires game and sat down with me to teach me how to play. Such excitement and learning for a young mind.
I'm grateful that I got to spend some quality time with him recently, sharing conversation, laughter, and quiet moments that I’ll always hold close. We miss you deeply, Dodappa.
Ram Uncle is one the sweetest people I have met.
He always made me feel home, even before I got married into the family. I remembered he shared a questionnaire for my then to-be-husband and me to discuss before marriage - treating marriage as equal partnership and creating a common value system. It was the most thoughtful guidance to a young couple. Their marriage was true demonstration of that, of love and of shared values.
I am so grateful that we visited him this June and spent our most cherished time, together. Even through his health, he planned a complete itinerary for us and joined us, enthusiastically.
This speaks volume for his deep thinking, meticulous planning and eternally caring nature.
Ram Uncle leaves a void in the family, I see that through everyone's eyes for whom he was ever guiding Anna.

Ram was my cousin, the eldest in our family. I used to refer to Ram as Anna, which meant 'older brother' in Kannada.
Anna showed us doors which we didn't know existed. He was always there for us and was very generous in sharing his experiences, be it on home ownership, the choice of car... We could stride confidently knowing that Anna was looking out for us, especially warning us of what was around the corner. I valued his counsel, especially as we were settling down in a new country. He valued family a lot, making sure that he was present at family events, bring the various members of the family together when he visited India.
Anna, we will stand on your shoulders, cherish your memories, celebrate your life and will try to carry forward your legacy. You were taken away too soon. Will miss you.
Ram was such an intelligent man and I would love to talk about world topics with him. I always appreciated the respect and caring he showed others.
6 years ago when my husband died, Ram had Jeri bring a spiritual statue to my home where, along with Jeri, we had a very small ceremony.
Jeri told me it was the only time Ram allowed it to leave his possession.
That is a very special memory granted by a very special man.
Ram was a good friend. We served on The Mutual Board together. Ram was responsible for getting our new Governing Documents completed. He also set up the original Email list and would send them out. We would take morning walks together discussing how to better our neighborhood with less money. Jojo would greet him with a wagging tail waiting to have his head scratched.
Ram will be missed by me and everyone in our Mutual.

I have the fondest memory of us going to San Francisco to see a ballet. I don’t remember which ballet, however he was our escort and protector as we walked the streets of San Francisco. When Jeri ran across the street, without the rest of us, he showed his concern and protection for his wife by voicing his loving and stern comment to her. Those that knew him benefited from his big heart!
