Querubin S. Chay's Obituary
Querubin Chay was born on 10/31/35 in San Fernando, Pampanga in the Philippines. He was the 2nd eldest of six children. At an early age he worked in the family business manufacturing noodles. After graduating high school he continued to work in the family business and eventually took over the management after Fernando, the eldest child, passed away unexpectedly.He immigrated to the United States in 1981 at the request of his mother who was living with the youngest daughter, Juanita Balauro, who came to the in United States 1963. He became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States in 1990.Querubin worked as a machine operator for IDT until his retirement. Although he had no immediate family of his own, he considered his extended family as his immediate family, especially Juanita and her children with whom he lived with for most of his life in the United States. He would often visit and spend time with his sister, Joaquina, her family and his brother, Jose who lived nearby.Querubin was a quiet man who enjoyed going out to eat with his family, watching sports on TV and taking long walks. He particularly enjoyed going out to lunch with his brother in law, Kee and his grandnephew, Ryan as he liked seeing the attention Ryan would receive from passersby. He frequently went to the local donut shop and met with other retired Filipino men to discussed current events and reminisce about the Philippines. He had always hoped to return to the Philippines one day, but sadly he never did.Querubin suffered from Alzheimer’s and the dementia associated with it for 8 years. His mental and physical health deteriorated as the disease progressed, declining significantly over the past year. On Wednesday, October 16, Querubin, succumbed to his illness, gone to his eternal rest, no longer suffering, no longer afraid.Querubin is survived by his sister, Joaquina Cheong, and multiple nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who all loved “Uncle Ben” and will miss him dearly. He will remain forever in our hearts.
