Placido Sedeno Mercado's Obituary
Placido Sedeno Mercado, Jr. Resident of Oakland, CA Placido Sedeno Mercado Jr was born on September 14, 1929 in Honolulu, Hi. He met the love of his life Margaret Molina, married April 16, 1949, and was blessed with 5 children. Placido moved his family to Oakland, Ca in 1956, in order to obtain better job opportunities for himself and greater education for his children. Placido was enlisted in the United States Marine Corp Reserves from 1947-1952, then following family tradition, became a Merchant Seaman. He was an Oakland A’s season ticket holder where he and his wife would cheer on the team from section 211. Placido was very much into culture and finding his family roots. He would stop people to ask them where they were from and who they were related to, often discovering a family connection. Placido had a great sense of humor and was always finding a way to make people laugh. He enjoyed spending time with his family and would share his Puerto Rican culture so the family would have knowledge of where they came from. Placido spent time working with many organizations such as his former Presidency with Puerto Rican Union of Mutual Aid, a board member of Western Region Puerto Rican Council, American Legion and Scottish Rite. Placido, 82, entered into rest on May 3, 2012 in Oakland, Ca. He joins his parents Placido Mercado Vasquez and Florence Matina Caravallyo Sedeno and his son Robert Stephen Mercado. Placido is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Mercado, children; Patricia, Douglas, Marguerite and Richard; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grand-children. In addition, Placido has 4 surviving siblings Rosita Hernandez, Lillian Santiago, Joseph Alices and Harold Alices along with a host of other relatives and friends. Viewing will be held at Chapel of the Chimes 32992 Mission Blvd in Hayward, CA, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 5-9p and funeral services will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 10a-12 noon. A celebration of Placido’s Life will be held following the burial. Directions and information will be provided at the Chapel.
