PILAR MURILLO's Obituary
Pilar Ferrero Murillo passed away peacefully at her home on November 25th, 2014 with her family at her bedside. Pilar was born on July 7th, 1918 in Gary, Indiana, the oldest child of Eustachio and Pilar Ferrero. Her brothers, Stanley and Daniel, and her sisters, Evelyn and Marie, predeceased her, as did her husband of 62 years, Benito Murillo, and her son, Ronald Murillo.Pilar’s childhood was spent going to school, participating in activities at the Spanish Society, and helping take care of her younger siblings. In 1937, she married Benito Murillo. That year, they traveled to California to visit the San Francisco Exposition on Treasure Island, returning to Indiana to start their family. In 1944, the family, which now included two sons – Ben Jr. and Robert – moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, settling in Oakland, where they lived until 1969. During their time there, they welcomed two more sons, Richard and Ronald. In 1969, they moved to Alamo, where they hosted innumerable summer barbeques, Christmas gatherings, New Years parties, and pick-up basketball games in their driveway. They moved to Walnut Creek in 1991.Pilar was known for many things during her lifetime – an aspiring French Horn player in her high school marching band, an amazing cook who could whip up a delicious meal at a moment’s notice, a gracious hostess for countless family gatherings, a marathon shopper who always found thoughtful, unique gifts for everyone, the absolutely luckiest of slot players, a collector of Hummels and elephants, and a loving and thoughtful wife, daughter, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She lost the love of her life in 1999 but found new happiness with a kindred spirit, Manuel Alvarez. Her family is very grateful for the love and companionship she enjoyed with “Manolo.”Her family is also very grateful to her wonderful caregivers, Sani Tatila and Davina Young, who took such kind and gentle care of her and made it possible for her to live out her last days at home. The family would also like to thank Hospice of the East Bay for providing her comfort and peace in her last days.A memorial service is planned for 12:30 PM on Monday, December 1st at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward.
