Phyllis Mae Shackelton March 22,1919 &_ June 18,2009 Resident of San Leandro Formerly of Pocatello, Idaho, Phyllis died Thursday after a brief stay at St John Kronstadt Care Center in Castro Valley. Beloved mother of Jolene Smith (Larry) of San Leandro and Joy Sotello of San Ramon. Her grandchildren who knew her as “Tu-tu”, are Ken Guttery of Fremont and Jowell Valenzuela of Pleasant Hill; great grand-children Nicholas Guttery (Monica) of Maui, Hawaii, Travis Guttery of Livermore, Anthony Guttery and Austin Guttery of Fremont and Rachelle Valenzuela of Martinez; great-great grand-children Mason Guttery and Nevaeh Valenzuela. She has a brother Wesley (June) of Littleton, Co. and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry and granddaughter Victoria Gonzales, sister Thelma Watson and brother Dee Young. Phyllis touched many lives with her gentle spirit and positive outlook on life. Phyllis recently retired from Product Development Corp. in San Francisco after 45 years of service. She enjoyed her second home on the lake in Twain Harte where she enjoyed watching all the children swim. She enjoyed baking, gardening, reading, travel, dancing, telling jokes, gambling, playing cards and knitting. Phyllis was a very social and outgoing lady who had a passion for life and shared that passion through her volunteer work with the Golden Agers and Friendly Connections. She was very much loved in life and will be tremendously missed. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life to be held Monday June 22, 2009 at 1:30 PM in the Reflection Chapel of Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward CA 94544 with Entombment to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to Pathways Hospice Foundation, 585 North Mary Ave. , Sunnyvale , Ca. 94085 or to your favorite charity.
