Phung Thi Nguyen's Obituary
Phung Thi Nguyen, age 79, passed away in the presence of her family on April 12, 2025, in Fremont, CA, due to complications of pneumonia. She was born July 3, 1945, in My Tho, Vietnam, a daughter of Nguyen Van Nam and Le Thi Ngoc.
At the young age of 18, Phung left her childhood home in Vietnam for the city lights of Tokyo, delighting in the adventure of a new country and career as a newscaster and producer for NHK Radio Japan and Voice of America. At 29, she married Bac Dich Nguyen, and without the benefit of knowing the language, they moved again to start a new chapter of life in California. There, while raising three children, she attended night school to study accounting, a career she maintained until her retirement in 2012. During her life, she greatly enjoyed time with her family and travel to new places, where the abundance of her best times was had. In her more recent days, her joy came with gardening and her grandchildren.
Phung brought joy to those who had the privilege of knowing her. She was good-natured and never had a bad word to say. Her passing will leave a lasting void in the hearts of her family.
Phung is survived and missed by her husband, Bac Dich Nguyen, two daughters, one son, and two sons-in-laws, Lily Nguyen Foster, Lisa Nguyen, Dan Dich Nguyen, Patrick Foster, and Austin Reid Hendricks; as well as two grandchildren, Ian and Alec Foster. She also leaves many other family members and friends around the world, including in the United States and Vietnam, who will sadly miss her.
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Phung and her family.
