Peggy Francis' Obituary
Peggy Anne Jordan was born to the union of Willie Edward Jordan and Arsenia Rhodes on February 16, 1951, at Herrick Hospital in Berkeley, California. Peggy was the second of nine daughters born to this union. Peggy attended Cornices Village Elementary School until the family moved to Alameda, California where she attended Encinal High School. The family later moved to Hayward California in 1966, where Peggy attended Hayward High School. Peggy excelled in school and became the first African American Head Cheerleader, and Princess of Hayward. Peggy graduated from Hayward High in 1969 and attended Cal State Hayward where she pursued her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. While attending Cal State, Peggy was an avid dancer and performed with the University’s dance troupe and also taught dance classes at the San Felipe Recreation Center in Hayward. During her college years, she worked for Pacific Bell as a 411 operator. Peggy later worked for Social Security Administration where her career spanned 35 years, before retiring as an Operations Supervisor.
Peggy professed her love for Christ at an early age and was baptized by Reverend L.L. Hester at New Light Baptist Church. While at New Light, Peggy became the radio announcer for what would become a groundbreaking radio program. While at New Light Peggy met and married her husband of 43 years, Harold James Francis. To their union were born two children, Erika Elise Francis Almquist, and Jordan Alexander Francis. Outside of her family and professional life, Peggy was an expert seamstress, and found joy in knitting, crochet, needlepoint, and crafting. She created beautiful pieces of art that the family will cherish.
Peggy was preceded in death by her mother and father Willie and Arsenia Jordan, her sisters Maxine and Diane and her niece Dena.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Harold, daughter Erika Elise (Jayd), son Jordan Alexander (Briana), Gwyneth, Harold Jr (Tiffany), Dexter (Katina). Her Sisters, Sheila (Eddie), Deborah (David), Janice, Lynette (Benjamin), Wilma, Cecilia, Brother-in-law Carl Cartier, and nine brother in-laws and three sister-in laws she loved dearly. Grandchildren, Paxton James, Skylar Anne, Aaron, Raphael, Ari, Raiden, Taylor, and Coleen with a host of nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews.
