Paul Lim, 88Paul Lim (Lim Kwok Ching) was born in China on January 1, 1930. He immigrated to the U.S. with his family in the late 60’s.Paul was a man of character and well known for his generosity, brilliance and wittiness. He was a physician with healing hands and gave freely to those who could not afford medical treatment. He ran a busy medical practice in Hong Kong during the day and at night, he bicycled to those who could not afford to travel to seek medical care, offering treatment and medicine for free.In the U.S., Paul held multiple hard labor jobs to support his young family. Before retiring, he owned a successful Chinese seafood restaurant business for over twenty years. Seeing customers enjoy the service and food brought him delight. He went out of his way to make sure that every customer was fully content with the delicious food and the ambiance. Paul gave to anyone in need graciously and helped many immigrant families thrive in the U.S. His compassion for people and his selflessness were unparalleled.Paul was an avid basketball player in his younger days. He also enjoyed ping pong and started a bowling league with friends and brought home team trophies with pride. Besides spending time with his late wife and children, and grandchildren he also found joy in reviewing math books, playing Sudoku, watching basketball games, and playing Chinese chess with strong opponents. Paul was well traveled and treasured his visits to China’s historic landmarks the most.On October 16, 2018, Paul passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Fong and his three brothers, John Lim, Steven Lim, and David, Lim. Also survived by his son, Arnold Lim (wife Marta); daughter, Gayle Tang (husband Stephen), son, Michael Lim; 7 loving grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.Celebration of Paul’s life is scheduled on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home.
