Patsy Ambers' Obituary
Patsy Ruth Ambers was born on May 14, 1934 in Phoenix City Alabama to the late Warren Mary O’Neal and James Thomas. Patsy was raised in Phoenix City (Pumpkin Bottom) Alabama with her two older sisters. Patsy was educated at Mother Mary Mission Catholic High School in Phoenix City, Alabama. In 1954 she relocated to California, where she met and married Theodus Ambers, they raised two children Patricia and Kelvin.At an early age Patsy was baptized and received her religious training at Allen Temple AME Church in Phoenix City, AL. While living in Oakland, CA she joined Parks Chapel AME Church upon her move to Castro Valley, CA she transferred her membership to First Baptist Church of Russell City where she remained an active, faithful, tithing member. She was president of the missionary, a choir member and volunteered her time helping the church serve the community. She enjoyed providing food to those in need through cooking and baking, until her health started to decline.Patsy worked ten years at Levine Hospital, and dedicated forty years with Alameda County as a foster care parent. She cared for her mother in the final years of her life. Her passion was taking care of people she loved, and nurturing the many children that came into her home. Patsy was an active member in the Foster Parent Association. She was involved in numerous African American community based organizations such as; Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA), National Counsel of Negro Women and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Patsy had a variety of interest that included sewing, crocheting, ceramics, camping, and traveling. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world. Some of her special travels included trips to Europe, Germany, Jerusalem, Ireland, Singapore, and many cruses to the Caribbean. Patsy was talkative and friendly, her outgoing personality allowed her to make friends easily. When you needed someone to talk with Pasty was always available and willing to give advice.Patsy quietly departed this life as she slept on Wednesday, February 21, 2019. May God bless Patsy, and may she rest in eternal peace. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: Her faithful and loving son Kelvin Ambers (Carolyn), daughter Patricia Walker, cousin Frances Doyal, brother-in-law Lester Van Buren (Emma), sister-in-law Juanita Ambers and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Warren Mary O’Neal and James Thomas, her grandson Michael Ambers, and her sisters Mary Van Buren and Dorothy McCoy.Patsy’s joy will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know and love her.
