Patricio C Bernal's Obituary
Patricio passed peacefully from this life the morning of July 30th after a gradual decline in health. He was in the care of Sutter Roseville Hospital and supported by his loving family during the last days of his life. Patricio was born in Lingayen, Pangasinan, in the Philippines. He enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1954 and immigrated to Alameda, CA to complete basic training as a Seaman Apprentice. He returned to the Philippines to marry his love, Perseveranda Ferrer on December 30, 1956. She followed him stateside afterwards and they raised a beautiful family while moving throughout the United States where he was stationed at various bases in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New York & Hawaii. He also served sea duty aboard the USCGC Duane, Eastwind, McCullock, Winnebago and Plaintree. He worked in food services and later supervised the mess hall at the training center towards the end of his career. Patricio and Percy lived in Fremont, CA with their family and he retired from military service as Petty Officer 1st Class after 20 years in 1975. As a civilian, Patricio co-owned and operated, The Dock Café with his compadre, Felimon. Later, Patricio went on to work in the food distribution industry. Finally, in 1999, he and Percy retired to Roseville, CA where he lived a joyful and full life surrounded by his family. Patricio is survived by his wife Percy; son Bernie Bernal and his wife Katherine and their 2 children, Christopher and Isabella; daughter Sharon Smith and her husband James, and their 3 children, Patrick, Sasha and Sheridan; son Patricio Bernal, Jr. and his wife Alexx, and their 3 children, Jonathan, Alexandra and Samantha. In August of last year, Patricio’s great-granddaughter, Liliana Bernal was born.
