Paterno "Bong" S. Prestosa, aged 71, of Union City, California, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. He was born on March 3, 1952, in Pangasinan, Philippines. His life was an inspiring journey characterized by commendable accomplishments and invaluable contributions to his community.
Paterno's pursuit of knowledge led him to the Saint Louis University of Baguio, Philippines, where he earned a degree in Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. After his graduation, Paterno proudly served in the United States Navy, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His commitment to duty, integrity, and leadership made a lasting impact on his fellow servicemen and women.
Following his distinguished military career, Paterno transitioned into civilian life and found his place at Toyota Motors Corporation. Throughout his tenure at Toyota, he showcased his expertise in various technical roles, excelling in electrical and software engineering. Even in retirement, Paterno’s skills remained in high demand, and Toyota sought his valuable assistance with crucial software projects. Traveling across Northern America, Southern California, and Mexico, he selflessly trained staff in new systems, leaving a positive impact on Toyota’s manufacturing facilities.
Beyond his professional life, Paterno’s passion for golf was evident as he actively participated in tournaments in both the US and the Philippines. Additionally, he cherished moments of travel, exploring various parts of the world alongside his beloved wife.
Paterno was a loving and devoted family man. He is survived by his wife Norma, his children James and Jason, and his cherished grandchildren Dana, Jonathan, Jasmyn, and Jaxon. He will be deeply missed by his siblings Larry, Edwin, Lulu, Ophelia, and Gemma, as well as numerous relatives and close friends whose lives he touched in profound ways.
Paterno's warm smile, witty jokes, and unwavering support for his loved ones will forever remain in our hearts. As we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life well-lived and the lasting impact he made on those around him.
A viewing service will be held at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA 94544, on August 12 and 13, 2023 at 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church, 32223 Cabello St, Union City, CA 94587 on August 14, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Chapel of the Chimes.
