Osamu Sammy Hirabayashi's Obituary
Osamu Hirabayashi passed away September 13, 2019, at his home in Castro Valley at the age of 74. Born in the Topaz Relocation Center, Utah, to parents “Toby” and “Suzy”. He was the ROTC Battalion Commander at Castlemont High School. He worked as a baggage handler for Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) and eventually retired from United Airlines after 35 years as supervisor of airplane maintenance operations.In 1967 he married Judie and had 1 daughter.Sam was Transportation Section Manager for the Bank of the West and Volvo Tennis Tournaments, organizing all transportation for the tennis stars during the tournaments. He also put on local tennis league tournaments throughout the East Bay, serving as referee for local competitions.He enjoyed the shooting range and competing at local and club shoots was his passion. In 2017 he placed 6th in his class, won his class at the Ducks Unlimited Continental shoot in Vegas 2019.Sam loved life and enjoyed going to the casinos as often as possible. He will be sadly missed. He is survived by his second wife of 11 years, Joyce, whom he lovingly referred to as “Miyo”, his daughter Stacey and his siblings Steven, Roy, Kimie, June and their families.
