Orchid Dare Jow's Obituary
Orchid Dare Jow, 88, of San Leandro, passed away June 21, 2019 in her sleep. She was born in San Francisco on January 5, 1931 to Benjamin and Sadie Yuen Dare. Her unusual name came from when her mother, Sadie, received a beautiful orchid plant. Orchid graduated from Oakland High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, Gareth Jow and were married December 6, 1953. Out of high school, she worked with Harold Goldman of Goldman’s Department store in Oakland. She did everything from being an elevator operator to fashion model. When she had children, she was a stay at home mom, and then went to Dental Assistant school, and was a Dental Assistant for Dr. Arvid Olson, Dr. Kumar Belur, and Drs. David and Gary Fong. Orchid is survived by her sister Gwendolyn Leong and brother Byron Dare, daughter Denise and son Garret. Her celebration of life was celebrated July 6, 2019 at the Castro Valley Masonic Center with friends from the San Leandro Senior Center, where she volunteered, and with lifelong friends and family.
