Olivia Duran Cortez's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Olivia Duran Cortez on December 24, 2024 in Stockton, California. Olivia was born on May 22, 1931 in San Antonio, Texas to Francisco and Paola Duran. On March 8, 1951 Olivia married the love of her life, Luis Lozano Cortez. They were happily married for 55 years.
Olivia was a loving mother that dedicated her life to her family. Later in life, for several years Olivia became an elementary school crossing guard. She enjoyed working with the children and devoted her career to becoming a teacher’s assistant, working with bi- lingual students. Upon becoming a grandmother her dedication to her grandchildren was immense. She was active in her grandchildren’s lives from helping with homework to just having conversations. Her dedication with her great grandchildren continued as it had with her grandchildren.
In her later years Olivia enjoyed visiting her local senior center where she participated in various classes. She especially enjoyed art whether it be drawing, painting, making jewelry or ceramics. She joined their ukulele group and continued to perform with her last performance on Dec. 4, 2024.
Olivia was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, a lover of sports and enjoyed collecting baseball cards.
Olivia is survived by her children, Mary Jane Cortez, John (Sisina) Cortez, Diana (Ronald) Salas, Rebecca (Martin) Lopez.
Grandchildren, Robert (Natalie) Aguirre, John L. (Loc) Cortez, Vincent Cortez, Randy (Danielle) Salas, Martin (Megan) Lopez, Alicia (Taylor) Warn, Alex (Savaughn) Salas, Dennis (Chabely) Cortez.
Great grandchildren, Isabel Christian, Avonikah Salas, Kaleigha Salas, Anayla Salas, Jazzlynne Salas, Alex Salas Jr., Amelia Salas, Aurora Salas, Adoni Salas, Aulani Salas, Nellie Warn, Dakota Cortez, and Oliver Cortez.
Olivia leaves behind her only remaining sister, Margaret Apolinar as well as many nieces and nephews she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Luis.
Services to be held at Chapel of the Chimes 32992 Mission Blvd. Hayward, CA 94544 Visitation Sunday January 12, 2025 4:00 pm -7:00 p.m.
Funeral Service Monday January 13, 2025 12:00pm – 1:30 pm
