Olga was advocating for social justice and minority empowerment in the "establishment" part of aging services long before anyone else - when she was one of the few voices of any consequence doing so. It was a little lonely for her in this sector, away from the part of aging services focused on low-income and disadvantaged folks, where her views were more the norm and where she felt most at home, but you know Olga - she understood that she was more needed in that other world - among well-meaning but hide-bound folks. To the Family of Olga De Leonardis, -Olga was such a special person in my work life, but she also became my friend. I was fortunate to be able to stay with her in her home in Oakland and we enjoyed good times. She taught me that in social justice work, that taking two steps forward and sometimes one step back was progress that could and should be honored and built upon. Well done friend Olga, well done.
