Norvalle Dale "Norm" May's Obituary
Norvalle Dale "Norm" May, born December 22, 1931, passed peacefully at home on August 3, 2022 at the age of 90. Norm was born in Washburn, Missouri as the only child of Clyde and Ruby May. Norm moved to California as a teen, where he worked at Herrick Hospital while attending Berkeley High School, from which he graduated in 1949. Norm was never without a job; he worked for Garrett Freight Lines driving truck, and later worked for Mary Ellen's Jams and Jelly cooking jams and jellies. He then settled in at AT&T where he was employed for 35 years as a lineman and repairman. After retiring from the phone company, he continued to drive trucks for several more years. In life, Norm was an avid fisherman and commercially fished for many years. He also loved to shoot--he was an excellent marksman. He shot competitively until he was 90 years old and fell ill. He was a Master Mason joining in 1963, belonging to the Crow Canyon Lodge 551 for 59 years. Norm often told stories and enjoyed sharing memories with everyone he knew and met, especially the younger generations. Norm was a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He was lovingly known as "Papa Norm" to his grandchildren. He is survived by his soulmate and wife of 50 years, Patricia May, four children--Ronald May (wife Lynn), Cheryl May, William Granado (wife Tammy), Christina Clark (husband Jim)--seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Norm was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Sally Strong and his grandson, James May. Norm did not wish to have a service but wanted people to remember him as he was before his illness. He will be dearly missed by those who know and loved him.
