Nona Patterson's Obituary
Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life- Rev: 2:10Nona Ruth Patterson was born November 2, 1925 in Winnsboro, TX. She was the first born of Nollie and Velma Tavie. She had one sister Margaret Glendora (Osborne). Her parents, stepfather, sister, and son-in-law have all preceded her in death.At an early age Nona and her family united with Hynson Chapel CME church in Winnsboro. She moved to Sherman, TX in 1942 with her mother and stepfather Mr. & Mrs. Henry B. Fletcher. There she united with St. John CME church. She graduated from Fredrick Douglas High School in 1943. On September 1, 1944 she married George H. Patterson. They remained married until George’s death in 2004. To this union 2 children were born, Sandra K. and Gwendolyn M. Patterson.In 1947 she and her family moved to join her parents and sister in San Francisco, where she was a member of Missionary Temple CME and an active member of the Charlie B. Wiley Circle; one of the first circles of the Missionary Society founded at Missionary Temple around 1948. The family moved to Menlo Park in 1955 and on June 12,1956, they and several neighbors met to organize a CME church in Menlo Park. Nona was an active member of the Stewardess Board and choir at Menlo Park (now Cummings Park) CME Church. At the time of her passing, she was its oldest surviving charter member. Nona was also a working woman and held a position as a Computer Operator for Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale, CA until her retirement.Nona was active in her community as well, getting involved in the PTA, Girl Scouts, and booster club. For several electoral campaigns she was a pollster and opened her home as a polling location.Nona was known by many as ‘grandmama’ or ‘mama Nona’. She leaves behind to honor her memory, daughters Sandra and Gwendolyn (Jacob), sister-in-law Clarice Patterson, grandchildren Donte Sr., Sean, Tory (Tinarsha), and Shelby, great-grandchildren Donte Jr., Julian, Aaron Sr., Dominique, and Isaiah; great-great-grandchildren Arianna, Jeremiah, and Aaron Jr., as well as a host of family and friends.
