Noel Brenda Smith's Obituary
Noel Brenda Smith was born on May 25, 1952 to Mary Ware and Charles Wooten. She grew up in San Francisco’s Fillmore District with her parents and sibilings while gaining her general education until she graduated high school at Galieo High in 1970. In 1974, she met James Smith in Oakland, CA and 3 years later they had their first child, Fatima Smith. Noel and James got married soon thereafter and then they welcomed their second child, Salih Smith in 1982. From there, they raised their children in the FIllmore District until James passed away in 1987.After being a stay at home mom for many years, Noel decided to go to college and become a mechanic. She enrolled in John Adams Community College in San Francisco and competed her education as Automotive Technician in 1988. She went on to land a Diesel Mechanic position with Waste Management of Alameda County as technician on their 48 ft garbage truck fleet. With this new role in the east bay, she decided it was time to move out of San Francisco with her children and that she did. Now as a single mother of 2 and with a new career, she embarked on starting her new life in Hayward, CA.In August of 2015, she was diagnosed with Mutiple Myeloma Cancer. She used all the strength she had always possessed to fight this diease. From the many chemotherapy and radiation sessions to the many transfusions and doctor visits, she never gave up the fight. It wasn’t until she fell ill with the flu in early 2017 is when things took a turn but thorugh it all she was still fighting. She kept up her strength against cancer until God called her home on March 6, 2017 in Hayward, CA.She is survived by her children Fatima and Salih Smith, her grandchildren DaKarai and Khalil Thomas, sisters Carolyn Thomas and Pauline Perea, and brother Eddie Ware along with a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband James Smith, mother Mary Ware, father Charles Wooten, and brothers Billy and Mazay Hines .She was a character and anyone who knew her has a story to tell of her. She loved to pray and continously built her relationship with God while loving to listen to her gospel music.Her smile will truly be missed.
