Nieves Vitangcol Filardo's Obituary
It's with profound sadness that our beloved mother and grandmother, Nieves Vitangcol Filardo passed away peacefully on the afternoon of April 30, 2025. Nieves, better known as "Bess" to her friends and Gma to her grandsons, was born in Manila, Philippines on August 5, 1937. Bess was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 56 years, Dom M. Filardo in 2024. Bess leaves a legacy of love through her two sons, Dominic (Monika) and Eric. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alex (Carissa), Nikolas and Gregory. Bess also leaves behind her sister, Carmen and many cousins, nephews, and nieces from the Philippines, Australia and Canada.
Bess' favorite thing to do was travel with her husband. They enjoyed traveling the world together and have visited many countries relishing in the culture, scenery, and its cuisine. Their traveling ramped up when they both retired and going on cruises was a new favorite. They have many photo albums of all their adventures and loved to share them with family and friends. Besides traveling, Bess loved spending time with her her grandsons and spoiling them. She loved cooking and making their favorite meals. As a devout Catholic, she enjoyed being an active member at St. Anne's Catholic Church and the Santo Nino Prayer group. When going to mass was too difficult, she watched daily mass on TV and prayed the Rosary. Bess loved helping with church activities and helping Dom with his Knights of Columbus functions.
Bess graduated from the University of the East in 1958 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and embarked on a banking and finance career that spanned over 50 years. Her first assignment was with
Bechtel Corporation as an intermediate clerk for their Trust and Thrift Administration and retiring as an Accountant for Fremont Investment Advisors, Inc. She was proud of her career with Bechtel that spanned 30+ years, retiring in 2005.
Bess' legacy of love, kindness and dedication to her family will forever be
remembered and celebrated. She will be missed beyond measure, but it
gives us solace knowing that she is reunited with her husband in Heaven.
