Myrtle Naoko Matsumura's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Myrtle Matsumura, 1943 ~ 2014Myrtle Naoko Matsumura was born April 12, 1943 on Oahu to Kimiyo and Kazuto Sasaki. She was the second of four children. She has an older brother, Chester; younger sister Charlotte; and baby brother Lester.She spent her formative years causing mischief with her sister and life-long friend Helen. After graduating from Farrington High School, she attended the University of Hawaii. She moved to San Francisco in 1966, to be Eunice’s roommate.In San Francisco, she met her husband, Satoru Dennis Matsumura while attending Karen and Roy Sakai’s wedding. Myrtle and Dennis were married on November 25, 1967. They moved to Union City in 1972 and raised two children, Ryan and Erin.Shortly after arriving in Union City, Myrtle found out that another family with Hawaii ties was moving in across the street. She introduced herself and sparked a once-in-a-lifetime friendship with Kay and Tom Ng.When Ryan and Erin were in grade school, Myrtle went back to work. She really enjoyed working at Head Start and United Airlines, where she made some terrific friends. She and Dennis travelled frequently, thanks to United’s flight perks.She gained a daughter-in-law, Denice in 2010; and became a grandmother for the first time in 2011, when Emi was born, and again in 2013 when Matteo was born.Myrtle enjoyed good food, flowers, Christmas music, traveling, Korean soap operas, walking in the neighborhood and spending time with friends, family and Draco.
