Milton Kandel's Obituary
Milton Kandel 1928 – 2017 A loving husband, father, grandfather, and long-time resident of Castro Valley, Milton Kandel passed away Oct. 19 in Valencia, CA. The third child of Abraham and Selma Kandel, Milton was born in New York City. Because of the hard economic times, his family was forced to split apart throughout his childhood with Milton moving frequently between Montreal and Cleveland. Shortly after marrying in 1951, Milton and his wife Harriet drove across the country to settle in the suburbs of Los Angeles, where he began a 30 year career in computer operations with Chevrolet. He was a tireless worker, often putting in many hours of overtime to help out his colleagues. As the result of a promotion, in 1966 Milton was transferred to the Eastbay where he and Harriet immediately became involved in the activities of San Leandro’s Temple Beth Sholom. Milton served as synagogue Vice-President, but was mostly known among temple members for his sense of humor, and the enthusiastic ballroom dancing and bridge lessons he provided to them. Shortly following his retirement, Milton took care of Harriet through four years of illness. They had been married 40 years at the time of her passing. Milton returned to Southern California where he married Florence. They enjoyed travelling together until once again Milton unfortunately needed to selflessly nurse his wife through a lengthy illness. Milton lived the final years of his life near his son Mark and daughter-in-law Karen as well as grandchildren Michael, Steven, Jeffrey, and Rebecca, in whose accomplishments he took much pride and by whom he is survived.
