Michael A. Valderrama's Obituary
Michael A. Valderrama, 92, beloved son, brother, father and grandfather of Fresno, California, peacefully departed this world on February 2, 2024, surrounded by warmth of his loved ones. Michael was born September 20, 1931 in Madera, CA to Refugio Valderrama and Charolette Acosta Childers. He was raised by his beloved mother Anita Valderrama and father Refugio Valderrama.
Michael and his sister Josephine spent their first few years of their lives with their paternal Grandparents in Madera, California. In 1938 Michael and Josephine united with their new blended family. From that point on the Valderrama family was bonded and inseparable for life. He attended Fremont High School in Oakland, CA. Due to family financial difficulties Michael decided to leave high school before graduating to work full time to help the family. At a young age he took upon himself to make this unselfish decision in order to help his parents to keep the family together. Michael was drafted in 1952 during the Korean War and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He took pride and felt honored to serve in the US Army. After being honorably discharged from the US Army he returned to civilian life and worked at several different manufacturer plants until he accepted a position with the Del Monte Company. His work ethics was unmatched. He always reported to work an hour before his shift, if he reported to work a half hour before his shift he would consider that being late. During his work years one could count on one hand the number days he reported sick. He worked for Del Monte until he retired. His love for music and dancing was one his favorite pastimes along with attending Oakland Raiders Football and the Oakland A’s baseball games. He and his family and friends would gather and socialize at tail gate parties before and after the games. One of his favorite things he love do after he retired was to take his mother grocery shopping they would spend hours shopping and talking. She was his confidant. He cherished those moments with her.
Michael leaves behind a legacy admired by family and friends, who will fondly remember him. Although his absence leaves a void, gratitude fills our hearts for the countless years of shared moments.
Michael’s greatest joy emanated from his three children, Larry , born in 1960, Sonya , born in 1970 and Andrew born in 1972. His role as a father was not just a duty but a cherished privilege, and his time with his children was filled with laughter and shared adventures.
