Michael Okumura's Obituary
Michael Okumura passed away April 19th, after a brave battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was 59. Michael was born on April 8, 1956 in Okinawa, Japan. While his father was in the Air Force, he lived in Okinawa, South Carolina, California and Delaware. The family finally settled in Monterey when Michael was 15 years old. Michael graduated from Monterey High School in 1974 and attended Monterey Peninsula College. He loved automobiles, earning a reputation as a talented mechanic and developing a loyal clientele over a 37 year period. In 1990, Michael married his best friend and the love of his life, Lana. Four years later, they were blessed with twins, Victoria and Brandon. Michael enjoyed motorcycles, photographing his kids sporting events, salmon fishing and biking, but he was most passionate about spending time with his family. In addition to his wife and children, Michael is survived by his mother, Masako, sisters Sharon (Ben) and Karen (Willie), and numerous nieces, nephews and many loving friends he considered family. Michael’s fun-loving, mischievous nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, 2 pm at The Monterey Peninsula Buddhist Temple, 1155 Noche Buena St., Seaside, CA 93955.
