Michael Heath's Obituary
MICHAEL LAWRENCE HEATH, 58, died October 24, 2012, at 1:30 a.m., with his mother and beloved younger sister by his side. He was born June 12, 1954, in Los Angeles, California, to Davie and Lorraine Heath, Jr. His career military father, Davie, was a Command Sergeant Major in the Army. His mother was an administrator. Michael was the second of seven children born to the Heath Family. Mike had a sly sense of humor and an easy-going disposition. He was a fabulous artist and spent his youth playing marbles, collecting toy trolls and, along with his three brothers, drawing his own imaginable characters. Though he never pursued the career path available to one with his extraordinary talent, you would always find him with a pen in hand practicing his art sourced by his love of comic books and science fiction. Mike attended San Jose State University in the 1980s, majoring in Psychology and competing in Football, Wrestling, Track & Field and Judo. He also competed in many championship matches in Arm Wrestling at the San Mateo County Fair on a regular basis, but his life took a detour and he spent a portion of his life behind bars for drug related issues. Mike successfully turned his life around and since 2010 has worked for Cherry Hill/Horizon Services, Inc., and was a true life inspiration to his associates and to their clients. His dedication to the recovery process and to helping others in recovery is a powerful legacy. Mike was the first point of contact as a Level 3 Detox Assistant, developing the first face-to-face relationship to be significant and everlasting. Mike is survived by his grandmother, Mildred, his mother Lorraine, his brother, Guy, his sisters, Pamela, Tamela & Angela and their spouses, a grand host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family, though he himself died childless. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, David and Ricardo. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012; 10:00 a.m. PDT at: Chapel of the Chimes32992 Mission BoulevardHayward, California 510-471-3363 Cherry Hill/Horizon Services, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a Sobering Center, a Detox Center and a Health Center to the underserved populations in Alameda County suffering from the disease of addiction.
