My children and I met Mickey at a small school on Hawaii where he was honored with their Heart of a Hero award. He was an amazing speaker and the whole school adored him. Fair Winds and Following Seas.
I would like say “Farewell and Following Seas” to Master Chief Mickey Ganitch whom I had the distinct honor of meeting at the AE/AOE Sailors Association Reunion in Newport, RI in Oct 2019. When I asked him what he planned to do for his 100th birthday, he said he had just renewed his drivers license for another five years.
I wish I would have taken a picture to share with the world that will always love you. When you sat on my Harley Davidson and reved the motor. That five minutes of time meeting you will last forever in my memory...America thanks you. GOD BE WITH YOU FOREVER.
Mickey would come to all (ALL unless he was traveling to places like Normandy, Washington DC, etc) of our Las Positas College Veterans First events. He was our keynote speaker for our Honoring Veterans Day last November. His stories and wisdom will be missed. It was an honor to meet a true American Hero. Both Mickey and Barbara became part of our Veterans First family!
My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Mickey at an anniversary party for his daughter Karen and her husband Gary. He was so nice, friendly and so full of life. We enjoyed seeing the pictures when he visited Pearl Harbor and the White House. You could see that he was proud to have served his country - a true patriot. We thank you Mickey for your service and we're happy to have met you. May you rest in peace. We hold his family in our thoughts and prayers and may God comfort each one.
