Merla Alves' Obituary
Merla Alves, age 93, loving mother of two, and adoring wife for 68 years to late husband Anthony “Buddy” Alves, passed away in the early hours of March 17 after a courageous but short-lived battle.
Merla was born in 1930 in a copper mining camp hospital in the Sierra Nevada. Her father was an immigrant from Stockholm, Sweden, and her mother was the daughter of the mining camp “doctor” and his wife. She grew up with her brother and sister in and around the San Francisco Bay Area and remained a resident of the area for the rest of her life. She met her husband, Buddy, while working as a bookkeeper for his and his brother’s trucking company, Alves Service Transportation. They were married in 1950.
Merla was a loving and caring woman, always giving her time and love to others. As a wife and mother she was generous, loving, and kind, as she was to all who knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Tonja, in Santa Cruz, and Micalyn, in Fremont, her son-in-law, Henry, also in Fremont, and her sister, Karin, in Fair Oaks, as well as a great many friends and family who loved her deeply and dearly.
For those who would like to say a last good-bye, there will be a service at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA, on March 29, 2023, at 12:30pm.
