Melvin David Bertelson's Obituary
Mel Bertelson passed away peacefully at his home in Hayward, CA on Sunday, September 5, 2021, surrounded by his daughters and loving caregiver. He was born in southern California in 1946 to Chester and Miriam Bertelson, along with younger siblings Ken, Kurt, and Karen. He grew up in Castro Valley, CA, graduating from Castro Valley High School in 1964. He was drafted into the Army, where he was commended for designing an arms room. He became a Teamster in Local 70, driving trucks for Fleming, Safeway, and Pacific Steel, and occasionally worked for movie productions (Mrs. Doubtfire, Predator 2, Made in America, and Angels in the Outfield). He loved old cars and riding his motorcycles.
Mel is survived by his daughters, Michelle and Janelle Bertelson, as well as his brother Ken and sister Karen Anderson. A memorial service will be held at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward on Wednesday 9/15/21 at 12:30pm, with a viewing on Tuesday 9/14 from 4-7pm.
