Maxine Glover's Obituary
Maxine Enix Sudduth Glover departed this life on December 4th, 2019 in Oakland, CA. She was 85 years young. Maxine was born June 28, 1934 to Fleming and Maggie Enix, Sr. Maxine started playing the piano at age 5 and had memorized over 3500 songs. She confessed Christ at an early age. When her family moved from Beaumont, Texas to Oakland, CA in 1947, she outperformed kids her age to become the organist at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in West Oakland.A graduate of Castlemont High School in Oakland, CA, Maxine would later attend San Francisco State University and major in Music. On Saturday, January 9, 1993 she played for Mayor Willie L. Brown, Jr. at his 7th Speakership Inaugural Ball. Maxine’s musical talents were in high demand throughout her life. She played for countless events, people & celebrities.She spent 32 years in the construction business as an office worker. At age 38, she resumed playing with more regularity at various clubs, including Maxine’s, a now defunct club named after her in Jack London Square. She played eight years at the Scott’s in Walnut Creek before moving to the Oakland Scott’s 22 years ago. An Oakland resident for most of her life, Maxine had her own trio, “Just In Time,” with bassist Michael Bacile and drummer Ranzel Merritt.Maxine is survived by 4 daughters, Ripple Reese, Debbie Reese Turner (Lamar), Leslie Reese and Rhonda Lockhart; 3 brothers, Fleming Enix, Wendell Enix (Sharon), Raymond Enix (Veronica) and 1 sister, Carol McInnis;10 Grandchildren, Demetrius, Donald, Kiona, Tomika, Kenneth, Kesha, Devin, Omar, Nigel and Milan; 8 Great-Grandchildren, Raven, Anyla, Amir, Lauren, Kaliyah, Kamura, Kareemha and Donavan. She is preceded in death by father Fleming Enix Sr, mother Maggie Ray Sudduth, sister Freddie Enix of Vallejo, CA, brother Louis Enix of Los Angeles, CA, brother Charles Sudduth, Oakland CA, and brother Norvin Sudduth, El Cerritto, CA.A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 1 pm on January 19, 2020 at Scott’s Seafood in Oakland, CA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Maxine’s life.
