Maudie Mae Brown's Obituary
Maudie Mae Riles was born to Lee Riles and Lillian Poe on Sept.3,1930. She was their only child. She was born in Boswell, Oklahoma. She was raised in Tulsa, Ok. Maudie attended elementary and middle school there. Her High School years was spent in Boarding School at St. Ignacious Girls Parochial School where she graduated. She and her best friend Mae Pearl drove from Oklahoma to California where they settled in Bakersfield. She received her L.V.N. nursing certification. It was at Kern General Hospital where she met her soulmate Nathaniel (Fuzzy) Brown. They married and combined both families(his 6) and her ( 3)and we became the Black Brady Bunch. They also added a beautiful baby girl, Nathalie to the family. Receiving a job offer in the Bay Area, they relocated to Hayward and then settled in Newark where they resided until his passing on May 19th, 1984. She retired from Kaiser Hospital (Hospice) in Hayward after 25 years of caring for others. After retiring she moved to Oakland,Ca she joined Allen Temple Baptist Church., where she volunteered in a few areas, but, "The Clothes Closet" was her baby. Mama loved to cook, entertain her family and friends alike, gardening, traveling, and her favorite pass time of all shopping. Everyone that was Blessed enough to have known her, no doubt about it, loved her. She loved unconditionally and never judged others. Though she had many sayings, the most important one to her was, "Always treat others as you'd want others to treat you". She always said, you never knew who might have to help you one day, or someone in your family. She opened her doors and heart to anyone that she came across. At times our house looked like a refugee camp. She was preceded in death by her mother Lillian, her husband Nathaniel, daughter Sheila, her son Theron,Sr., and her 3 best friends Aunt Mae Pearl, Aunt Naomi and Aunt Betty. She is survived by her 3 Sons; Durwin, Reggie, Cory,Sr., and 7 Daughters; Deborah, Diane, Gail, Crystal, Cynthia, Deidra and Nathalie Ruth. Daughter-in-law Kathy Tomlin and Son-in-law Ezekiel Benson. She left behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
