Masao Kato's Obituary
Masao Kato Jan. 2, 1927 – Sept. 28, 2011 Resident of San Leandro Masao Kato, 84, resident of San Leandro, CA, passed away on September 28, 2011. He was born in Stockton, CA on January 2, 1927. Masao is survived by Wanda, his wife of 49 years, sisters Hanae Watanabe and Terry Sato, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents Matsujiro & Haruye Kato and siblings Shizue Ito, Yoshiye Nagata, Masanori Kato, Masayoshi Kato and George Kato. Masao was a devoted husband who enjoyed traveling and going to the casinos with Wanda. He enjoyed taking photos and was an avid gardener. He grew plants for Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church’s annual festival. Prior to retirement, Masao worked for over 25 years at Sunnyside Nursery in Salinas and owned Farmer Joe’s Produce in Oakland for over 4 years. A memorial service will be held for Masao on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, 2 pm at Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church, 32975 Alvarado-Niles Road, Union City, CA 94587.
